AI Statement

TL;DR All the words and phrasing published under my name are mine.  If I can’t be bothered to write it, I can’t expect you to be bothered to read it.

Writing

I don’t use large language models (LLM) or generative AI to write, and no work published under my name contains AI-generated content.

As should be evident from the pace of publishing and the grammatical errors, all of these words were written, in the full sense of the word, by a human: me.

Images

I do not generate images with AI tools and do not knowingly use images made with AI tools. I regard the use of such tools as theft from legitimate creators.

Caveats

I use industry-standard spell and grammar checkers, and use photo editing apps to crop and edit pictures I take.

In the oligarch’s rush to justify their investment in LLM technologies, some of these tools may or may not be marketed as AI. On my end, they are used to make sure my love of commas is kept to socially acceptable levels and to ensure the picture is centered properly, but never to make new words or images.

I do consciously use LLM technology for utilitarian work around publishing (as opposed to writing), such as

  • Transcribing handwritten notes or audio files
  • Generating meta descriptions for search engines (let the robots talk to each other, I say, as I have no interest in talking to any of them)
  • To generate a first draft of an image description to increase accessibility.

This is a rapidly developing field, and is filled with questions around ethics, sustainability, and creativity. As a general rule, if billionaires are for it, I am against it.

This is a living document, and should things change, I will update it.
